Elana Sures, MEd, RCC | Individual & Couples Counsellor
I have over fifteen years of experience as a clinical counsellor, and in that time I have seen hundreds of clients, both for brief and long term therapy. I have been in private practice since 2006, and have worked as a clinical counsellor with Vancouver Coastal Health and other community agencies since 2000.
I am experienced in addressing a wide range of issues that bring people to therapy. Below is a list of some of the areas in which I specialise (click on each item to learn more about how I work with this issue).
The act of providing therapy is a combination of intuitive direction and highly skilled craft, and I am very dedicated to building my skills and proficiency through ongoing clinical consultation and professional development training.
In addition to receiving a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, I have extensive training in the following modalities:
- Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
- Mindfulness-based psychotherapies
- Interpersonal Neurobiology (attachment, emotions and threat response in the brain)
Over the course of my career as a therapist, I have worked with people from all walks of life, and with a wide range of issues. When I sit and talk to you, I incorporate years of clinical (and life) experience, while still understanding that you are a unique person who has walked your own distinct path. This enables me to effectively assess your patterns and dynamics and provide therapy that is tailored specifically to you.
I am a member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
