About Elana

I have over fifteen years of experience as a clinical counsellor, and in that time I have seen hundreds of clients, both for brief and long term therapy. I have been in private practice since 2006, and have worked as a clinical counsellor with Vancouver Coastal Health and other community agencies since 2000. In addition to receiving a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, I have extensive training in the following modalities:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy
  • Mindfulness-based psychotherapies
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Neurobiology (stress, emotions and threat response in the brain)

Over the course of my career as a therapist, I have worked with people from all walks of life. When I sit and talk to you, the depth of my experience, combined with my strong ability to understand you as a unique person, enables me to grasp the layers of your issues and provide treatment that is effective and tailored to you. The act of providing therapy is a combination of intuitive direction and highly skilled craft, and I am very dedicated to building my skills and proficiency through ongoing consultation and professional development training.

I am experienced in addressing  a wide range of issues that bring people to therapy - from mental health and addiction to family struggles to career burnout. Below is a list of some of the areas in which I have developed a specialty (click on each item to learn more about how I work with this issue).

I am a member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
